"Kofta" is a braided pattern from the Setesdal region of southern Norway, and "kofta" means cardigan. Although its origin is not clear, old photographs from 1870 onwards show that it was already established as a national costume. The men's jacket has an orthodox design with the traditional pattern of Setesdal Kofta.
